ABOUT AXELKNIT
" I design with my heart and love making simple knitwear something special for those who wear it "
- Anna Axelsen, Axelknit
Axelknit was created in 2025 and behind Axelknit is me, Anna Axelsen.
Knitting has always been a part of my life, and not least a part of me. I can't actually remember when I learned to knit - but I clearly remember the many hours on the couch, where the struggle was to get all the knit stitches the same, and out of that, it turned out to be many dishcloths and potholders - and that day Axelknit.
I really started knitting when I felt the peace knitting could give me. But also the opportunity to always have the knitting needle with me in my bag - and in that way also the peace with me, to the possibility of always being able to knit 5 rows or just 5 stitches.
It motivates me a lot to see thread on needles become a product, as well as the immersion in techniques and the process itself. Standing with a skein of yarn, color or just an idea that becomes a product, and something I enjoy. Immersing myself in materials, techniques and much more, I think is the coolest thing and something I can spend many hours on!
When I knit and design/write a pattern I REALLY often unravel something or even the whole thing. I am very perfectionist and I am very concerned that what I do is neat, as a small mistake easily irritates my eye. It is important for me to be satisfied when I see the idea take shape on the needles.
Writing and formulating a recipe is a challenging part of the process, but writing the recipes and communicating all the steps in a way that is easy to follow is also a satisfying part of the process, which makes it all worth it when you have a finished result.
Knitting is in itself a meditative process and working with your hands and keeping your hands and mind busy is good in itself, but knitting has the added benefit of producing a product. It helps keep me motivated while I relax. I think that's what drives so many people to knit: the enjoyment of doing something that feels good while also having a purpose and a product.
Having knitted – or having someone knit for you – makes the final piece of knitwear more meaningful. There are many emotions and not least memories in the many hours it takes to knit.
