Sonja Sweater is worked top down in textured stitch and cables. First, the upper back is worked flat with increases. Stitches are then picked up for the shoulders, which are joined at the front to form the front piece. The front and back are joined at the underarms to form the body, which is worked in the round on circular needles in textured stitch and cables. The sleeves are worked in the round on circular needles from stitches picked up around the armholes. Finally, a ribbed neckband is worked.
Work a swatch to determine the needle size needed to achieve the correct gauge. You can use the chart provided in the pattern for your swatch.
Choosing a size: The Sonja Sweater is designed to be worn with approximately 25 cm (10 inches) of positive ease relative to your actual bust circumference. Measure yourself before you begin knitting to determine the best size. For example, if your bust (or widest body measurement) is 85 cm (33½ inches), you should knit a size S. A size S sweater has a finished bust circumference of 113 cm (44½ inches), providing 28 cm (11 inches) of positive ease.
